“light a cigarette,
smoke the stress,
take a deep breath,
baby lets rearrange the mess we inherited…”

“Life and Debt” was one of those tracks I played continuously throughout my college years. I was always a fan of the song and meaning behind “Life and Debt” by Blue Scholars, but also believed that it was one of those sayings that had such a strong underlying meaning, at least to myself. The phrase soon became one of my favorite sayings of all time. The song is also one of my favorites as well.
I’ve been wanting to get “Life and Debt” for a while now. I was contemplating how I wanted it to be written out for the longest time. A couple months back, I came across Usugrow’s artwork and calligraphy and was completely amazed. I even tried to contact him to commission the man himself to write out my tattoo for me, but he still hasn’t responded. Perhaps he’s really busy with all the work he’s been doing for Upper Playground.
So basically I took 2 hours to decipher his calligraphy and then I wrote it out myself, it wont be as awesome as him doing it, but this will suffice. Usugrow changes his letters little by little everytime, so it was difficult to decipher everything and even try to write the letters out to match the style of the other letters as well.
My boy Luis aka Echerocker aka Aker was the man that helped ink me. He’s been drawing for years, but has only been tattooing for a couple months. I’ve seen his artwork and his can control, so I trusted him with the tat. I can only say that I am thoroughly satisfied and happy. Did I mention it was almost free?
Also I have to give credit to my brother Tony for cleaning up the image in illustrator for me.
Here’s where the inspiration came from: “Life and Debt” By Blue Scholars…skip to 1:50

Could you possibly send me a copy of how you deciphered his calligraphy? I’ve been trying to gather an alphabet of his myself, but as you said, he has been changing it little by little in everything he does
